Wellness and counselling services

Access crisis supports

Personal wellbeing is a key contributor to your academic success. We offer a supportive learning environment with a range of student mental wellness services and resources to help you care for your mental health and physical wellbeing, including:

  • Personal and career counselling, including culturally-responsive counselling for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous and/or Black and African Canadian students
  • Campus and Student Association mental wellness activities and events throughout the year to promote mental health awareness and boost wellbeing
  • Facilities like fitness and recreation centres, and cafeterias with a range of dietary options
  • Access to online and external supports

Professional counselling

51风流students have access to professional counselling (including culturally-responsive counselling for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous and/or Black and African Canadian students) at no cost.

Counselling offers comprehensive support aimed at empowering students to navigate their academic, career and personal lives with confidence. Counselling services include:

  • Guiding you to explore your interests, strengths and values to make informed decisions about your educational, career and life paths
  • Providing assistance in identifying and overcoming various life and academic hurdles, such as emotional distress, harmful substance use, relationships issues and more
  • Equipping you with effective coping skills to manage difficult situations and stressors faced during your college journey
  • Helping build connections with on-campus and community resources, ensuring you have access to the support networks you need for wellbeing and success

Online and community wellness resources

  • - A suite of free online mental health services, including:
    • - Free, confidential support services for post-secondary students, available 24/7. Access professional counselling, volunteer crisis support, and information and referrals about mental health services and supports. Call 1-833-292-3698 or text GOOD2TALKNS to 686868.
    • - A safe and anonymous, online peer community for your mental health, available 24/7 to all youth and young adults aged 16+, and post-secondary students in Nova Scotia.
    • - An online mental health library with interactive modules to help you understand and manage how you feel, think and act.
    • - An online cognitive behavioural therapy program that includes online modules, interactive tools and 1-on-1 virtual coaching through text messaging and/or weekly video and phone sessions.
  • , for resources to help you learn how to support someone struggling with their mental health.
  • Sexual violence support – understand what sexual violence is, get support and know how to respond.
  • - Find a community or social service in your area.
  • - Call 811 to be put you in touch with the nearest nurse examiner.
  • - Call 811 for health information and advice.

There are 24/7 supports available:
